Another good news story!

17yr old Tilly Surrey, from Waikanae completed a week’s work experience through our new Work EXperience programme - WEX during the July school holidays which has now opened doors for her to complete future paid work within the local law firm.

The placement was with The Law Connection in Raumati and offered a week of office/secretarial experience. Tilly Surrey was the local student that took the placement and she has thoroughly enjoyed her time there, commenting, “whilst with The Law Connection I did small admin tasks and on reflection I feel that as much as I learnt basic skills that will most definitely help me in future it was the environment and the people I was surrounded by that has given me such rich learning. It allowed me to really reap the rewards and feel a great sense of satisfaction watching my confidence and skills grow over the four days that I worked in my placement. Knowing that my small successes were attributed to my own knowledge and skills was a great confidence builder and made me feel at home in a working environment which is something that will make applying for jobs in the future much less nerve-racking.”

This is the first placement that The Law Connection have offered via our WEX programme and Paula Wingar, Practice Manager at The Law Connection commented “We were pleased to be able to provide a placement for Tilly in the hope that she would gain some insight into the day to day workings of a Law Office and that experience would somehow benefit Tilly’s decision making when deciding on her future employment or studies.”

The Law Connection were so happy with Tilly’s standard of work, that they commented, “We would be happy to employ Tilly if a suitable role was available over a school holiday period. The work experience placement gave us first hand experience working with Tilly and getting to know her and her skill set.”

But, as Tilly herself goes onto comment she has learnt so much more from the experience, “I am so grateful to the lovely people at The Law Connection who made it feel so easy and enjoyable to complete my four days of work experience and wish to thank them for the helping hand they have offered me. What I learnt in my time there has exceeded all of my expectations and has inspired me to look for more than a minimum wage job that I know I wouldn’t enjoy and find a career that not only makes me happy but that I am good at. Thank you also to the WEX Programme and Work Ready Kāpiti for this great experience.”
