Want to gain some work experience? We can help!

Keen to complete a WEX placement or looking for something specific? We work with a fabulous group of local businesses and we may be able to find you the perfect placement for you!

Work experience has been identified by employers as advantageous to being work ready and therefore helpful in finding employment. It also assists with identifying employment pathways for the future, is useful to put on your CV and you may even get a reference from the experience.

Our work experience programme - WEX, is aimed at 15-24 year olds. Having launched in July 2019, initially as a school holiday programme, the demand from both businesses and youth has led us to extend the programme and we are now offering placements on an ongoing basis - meaning there are always placements available and always students willing to complete them.

We liaise with local employers to secure a diverse and exciting range of placements and local colleges support us in the vetting and matching of youth to suitable placements. If you are interested in completing a placement with a local employer, please discuss this further with your college.

However, if you are not currently attending a local college this does not disqualify you from applying, simply contact us to discuss this further.

Current Placements

  • Ōtaki Kite Festival

    It’s an awesome weekend for Otaki and the wider region and a whole lot of fun.

    Whether it’s being a Beach Marshal, looking after the Dunes, selling Kites with smiles or helping the kids enjoy a run through the kite train – we need you.

    There are a glorious roster of helpers for the weekend,  in two hour shifts.

    These are 10 - 12 noon, 12 - 2pm and 2 - 4pm, on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March.

    And of course, there is the set-up on Friday and set-up/pack-up jobs on Saturday & Sunday – there is a job for everyone!

  • Hospitality


    Are you keen to get some hospitality experience? We have a number of hospitality businesses keen to get you onboard. This is a high-intensity, fast-paced environment, and you can learn a lot in a very short timeframe! Let us know your interests, are you a Front of House or Kitchen support superstar?

  • Kāpiti Run For Youth


    Join the team on Sunday 29th March for a day of fun and sunshine!

    Help guide particpants and be part of the team that makes the day a success!

    We are looking for a year 12/13 student keen on gaining some experience for the day.

  • Upholstery


    Interested in trades? Becs Shed Upholstery has a WEX opportunity for you!

    A day of shadowing, filled with many opportunities to learn the ins and outs of upholstery.
